Monk on a Chiang Mai street

Now, I have a soft spot for this image. I’ll willingly hold my hand up high and admit to liking it. I’m in the minority. The people of Flickrdom aren’t in agreement: it’s had only 10 per cent of the viewings of the previous image posted. Yet I prefer it. The first image was plain and simple, easy to digest. A young, saffron-robed, Buddhist novice monk passing in front of colourful adverts for cameras and satellite TV on a street in Chiang Mai, ThailandPerhaps this one is too rich, too confusing, in need of some eyeballing to declutter it. It’s certainly very busy, full of loud colours and details, which is appealing to me. It also has humour: ‘Gotcha!’ says the model in the advert to the novice Buddhist monk passing on the pavement below. If only he knew he’d been caught. Granted, it lacks organization and arrangement: a bit of structure. Like the Phnom Penh businessman, it was shot from the hip: I saw it, I took it; there was no time for planning. This was the best I could do.
